Xbox Expands Cloud Streaming Feature to PC, Allowing Users to Play Owned Games
Xbox continues to broaden its cloud gaming capabilities with the latest expansion of its Stream Your Own Game feature. Now, PC users can play supported games they own directly from the cloud without needing to install them locally. This follows the feature’s earlier rollout on Xbox consoles, smart TVs, browsers, and Meta Quest headsets earlier this year.
To access the feature, users must be part of the Xbox Insider program and subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate, which costs $20 per month. The move aligns with Microsoft’s strategy to make Xbox gaming more accessible across devices, reducing reliance on hardware as Sony maintains a strong lead in the console market.
Over 250 games are currently supported, including major titles like Baldur’s Gate 3, Star Wars Outlaws, Cyberpunk 2077, Hogwarts Legacy, Balatro, and several Assassin’s Creed games. Microsoft plans to add more titles over time. While the feature includes some console-only games, most are already available natively on PC. However, streaming can save storage space and eliminate lengthy downloads.
There are limitations. Only digital copies of games are eligible—physical discs won’t work. Additionally, the feature is restricted to the 28 countries where Xbox Cloud Gaming is available. Interested users must first join the free Xbox Insider program before accessing the functionality.
This update reinforces Microsoft’s push toward a more flexible gaming ecosystem, prioritizing cloud-based access over traditional hardware dependencies.
