Fan-Made Fallout Mod Bakersfield Shows Off Gameplay in New Trailer
A fan-made mod for the original 1990s Fallout game has resurfaced with a fresh trailer showcasing gameplay. Titled Fallout: Bakersfield, the project reimagines the ghoul city of Necropolis from Fallout 1 as a first-person shooter, similar to the newer entries in the series.
The mod is being developed by Alexander Berezin, also known as Red888guns, who has rebuilt the classic location using the GZDoom engine. The trailer highlights an impressive art style, blending retro-futuristic aesthetics with the grim atmosphere of the original game. While the mod doesn’t cover the entire Fallout experience, it focuses on the Necropolis segment, including a boss fight teased at the end of the footage.
This approach is reminiscent of the first part of the Final Fantasy VII remake, which expanded the Midgar section into a full game. However, fans will have to wait a while before getting their hands on Fallout: Bakersfield—the trailer lists a 2027 release date.
There’s also the question of whether Bethesda will allow the project to proceed. The company has a history of shutting down fan-made projects, so the mod’s future remains uncertain.
Berezin is also involved in another project—a Fallout-style RPG being developed by New Blood. Details on that game are still scarce, leaving fans to speculate on its potential release.
For now, the trailer offers a promising glimpse into what could be a fresh take on classic Fallout gameplay.
