Game Devs of Color Expo Celebrates 10th Year with Showcase and Grants

The Game Devs of Color Expo is back for its 10th anniversary, running from September 16 to 19. This online event highlights developers of color in the gaming industry while showcasing upcoming games through its GDoCExpo Direct presentation.

The GDoCExpo Direct starts the conference on September 16 at 4PM ET on the Game Devs of Color Expo YouTube channel. The showcase will feature over 30 games, alongside a Steam sale offering discounts and demos for selected titles.

While the Direct is free to watch, access to developer interviews and live panels requires a ticket. A standard pass costs $50, but the nonprofit behind the event provides discounted options for those who need them. This year’s discussions will cover topics like budgeting, design leadership, and the theme Decolonizing Cozy Games.

Since 2016, the Game Devs of Color Expo has aimed to elevate the voices of creators of color in gaming. Beyond the expo, the organization supports developers through grants. This year, it will distribute $15,000 in no-strings-attached funding, adding to the $405,000 awarded since 2019.

The event continues to bridge gaps in the industry by offering knowledge-sharing and financial support to underrepresented developers.
