Space Invaders Movie Moves Forward With New Writers
The long-gestating Space Invaders movie adaptation is reportedly making progress again, with new writers now attached to the project. According to recent reports, Ben Zazove and Evan Turner, known for their work on The Out-Laws, have been brought on to write the script for Warner Bros. New Line Cinema.
The project has been in development for over a decade, ever since Warner Bros. acquired the rights to Taito’s iconic arcade game back in 2014. In 2019, Mortal Kombat 2021 screenwriter Greg Russo was reportedly working on the script, but it appears the studio has since shifted direction.
Details about the film’s plot, release date, or creative approach remain under wraps. However, with video game adaptations gaining popularity in recent years, the timing might finally be right for Space Invaders to make the leap from arcade cabinets to the big screen.
Fans of the classic game will have to wait for further updates, but the hiring of new writers suggests the project hasn’t been abandoned. Whether it can capture the simplicity and nostalgia of the original while delivering a compelling alien invasion story remains to be seen.
