PUBG Next-Gen Upgrade Drops Last-Gen

PUBG Battlegrounds Is Dropping Support for PS4 and Xbox One

PUBG Battlegrounds is officially moving on from last-gen consoles. The developer announced that the game will transition to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 13. While the battle royale has been playable on current-gen systems, it was running in backward compatibility mode as a PS4 or Xbox One title. This change aims to improve performance and pave the way for smoother updates.

The shift means the game will no longer be downloadable or playable on PS4 and Xbox One after the cutoff. PS5 players will need to download a separate version of the game, while Xbox Series X/S owners will get the update automatically via Smart Delivery. Account data and purchased items will carry over seamlessly on both platforms.

The upgrade brings notable visual and performance improvements. PS5 players will get 1440p resolution at 60fps, while PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X will support Dynamic 4K at 60fps. The Xbox Series S offers two options: 1080p at 60fps or 1440p at 30fps.

Comparisons between the current and upcoming versions show subtle but noticeable enhancements, including sharper details and improved shadows. The developer emphasized that the move will provide a more stable experience and better accommodate future updates.

In a farewell message to last-gen players, the team reflected on the game’s legacy, thanking the community for eight years of battles and memorable moments. While the transition marks the end of an era for older consoles, it signals a new chapter for PUBG on modern hardware.
