Google has officially unveiled the Pixel 10 Pro Fold at its annual hardware event, introducing a new flagship foldable that aims to compete directly with rivals like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. This latest model brings significant upgrades, particularly in durability and wireless charging.
A major highlight is the device’s improved durability. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold boasts an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. This is a notable step up from its predecessor, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which only had an IPX8 rating, and a clear advantage over the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7’s IP48 rating. The IP68 certification means the phone is completely dustproof and can survive being submerged in over one meter of water for approximately 30 minutes.
Another first for the foldable category is the inclusion of Qi2 wireless charging. This new standard will work seamlessly with Google’s newly announced PixelSnap platform, its magnetic accessory ecosystem designed to compete with Apple’s MagSafe.
The hardware specifications are impressive. The phone features a 6.4-inch external OLED display and unfolds to reveal an 8-inch internal screen. Google has constructed the hinge from a high-grade aluminum alloy, and the outer display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Battery life is estimated at around 24 hours of regular use. However, Google’s Extreme Battery Saver feature can extend that time to a claimed 84 hours. The device also supports fast charging, capable of reaching a 50 percent charge in just 30 minutes.
For photography, the phone is equipped with a triple rear camera system. This setup includes a 48-megapixel wide lens, a 10.5-megapixel ultrawide lens that also supports macro photography, and a 10.8-megapixel telephoto lens for optical zoom. Under the hood, it is powered by Google’s latest Tensor G5 chip, paired with 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage.
The main drawback for eager customers is the later release date. While other new Pixel phones will be available on August 29, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will not go on sale until October 9. As expected with most foldable technology, it comes with a premium price tag, starting at $1,799.
