Share Music. Share Moments. Spotify & Instagram.

Spotify and Instagram Deepen Integration for Music Sharing

Spotify and Instagram are strengthening their partnership with two new features designed to make sharing music between the platforms more seamless for Spotify’s vast user base of nearly 700 million people.

The first update enhances the experience of sharing music to Instagram Stories. Now, when a user shares a Spotify track to their Story, it will include a short audio preview of the song itself. Viewers of the Story will then have a direct option to open that full track in the Spotify app by simply tapping on the music sticker attached to the post. This creates a more engaging and immediate path from discovery on Instagram to listening on Spotify.

A second feature brings real time music sharing to Instagram Notes. Users can now display what they are currently listening to directly within a Note. To use this, a person creates a new Note and taps the music note symbol. Inside the audio browser, they select the option to Share from Spotify. The Note will then automatically update to reflect the song playing at that very moment.

There is a dynamic element to this integration. If you are not actively listening to something when you set it up, the Note will automatically display the next song you play on Spotify within the following 30 minutes. This real time update means your musical choices are shared with friends almost instantly. Friends who see your musical Note can tap on it to quickly add that track to their own Likes in Spotify for easy listening later.

The integration works in both directions. Within the Spotify app itself, the process of sharing a currently playing song to Instagram has been streamlined. When a user taps the share button for a track, a new Notes icon will now appear alongside the existing options for sharing to Instagram Stories and Feed, making the path to sharing a Note just as simple.

These new features represent a significant step in blending social media interaction with music discovery. By embedding audio previews and real time listening data, the platforms are making shared music more interactive and immediate than a simple text-based update or a static image. It allows users to express themselves through their musical taste in a more dynamic way and gives their friends a frictionless method to explore and save new music they encounter on their social feed.

The global rollout for these updates is complete, and the features are available to all users on both iOS and Android devices.
