TCLs E-Ink Killer Phone Arrives.

TCL has unveiled a new smartphone at IFA 2025, the NXTPAPER 60 Ultra. This device marks a significant step for the company as its first phone to feature the latest generation of its proprietary NXTPAPER display technology, version 4.0. The core concept of NXTPAPER is to bridge the gap between the eye comfort of e-paper and the vibrant color and performance of traditional OLED screens.

The display technology is designed to alleviate digital eye strain through a combination of hardware-level features. These include built-in blue light filtering, a matte anti-glare coating to reduce reflections, and flicker-free brightness control. A standout feature is the dedicated Ink Mode button, which allows users to instantly switch the screen to a monochrome, E Ink-like display for a reading experience that is easier on the eyes. TCL states that this new 2025 iteration brings improvements in sharpness, more accurate color reproduction, and new AI-driven eye comfort modes.

Beyond its signature screen, the NXTPAPER 60 Ultra is positioned as a capable mid-range Android device. It boasts a large 7.2-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 1080p resolution. Under the hood, it is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 processor and comes with 12GB of physical RAM, which can be virtually expanded by an additional 12GB.

The phone features a triple-camera system on the rear. Notably, this setup includes a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens. This camera enables 3x optical zoom and can extend to a 6x lossless zoom using a digital crop. Powering the device is a substantial 5,200 mAh battery.

For its initial launch, TCL is focusing on markets in Europe, Latin America, and Asia. The smartphone is scheduled to become available later this month. Pricing is set at 499 euros for the model with 256GB of storage and 549 euros for the version with 512GB of storage.
