Lego Unveils Massive Ultimate Death Star Set Priced at 1000 Dollars
Lego has officially revealed its latest and most ambitious Star Wars set to date, the Ultimate Death Star. This colossal model is a beast, comprising over nine thousand individual pieces, making it the single largest Lego Star Wars set ever produced by the company. Beyond the Star Wars theme, it also claims the title of the most expensive Lego set in history, carrying a staggering price tag of one thousand dollars.
While the cost is substantial, equivalent to perhaps a month of rent, the scale of the build is equally impressive. The set is not a complete sphere but rather a detailed cross-section of the space station’s interior. This design allows builders to recreate numerous iconic locations from the original Star Wars films. Included scenes are the infamous trash compactor, Emperor Palpatine’s throne room, and Princess Leia’s jail cell. The set also features a tractor beam control unit and a shuttle hangar.
Accompanying the massive structure are thirty eight minifigures, ensuring a wide array of characters for display and play. The lineup includes major heroes and villains like Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Emperor Palpatine. In a fun nod to the popular Lego Star Wars video games, the set also includes a stormtrooper figure relaxing in a hot tub.
This release continues a trend of high end, expensive Lego Star Wars sets that clearly have a dedicated market. Recent examples include a six thousand piece recreation of the Razor Crest from The Mandalorian and a highly detailed Ultimate Collector’s Edition of Luke Skywalker’s landspeeder.
It is worth noting that while this is the most costly Lego set, it is not the largest by piece count. That record is still held by the Lego Eiffel Tower set, which contains over ten thousand pieces but retails for a lower price of six hundred and thirty dollars.
