Lara Croft’s Animated Era Ends.

Netflix has announced a pair of significant updates for its animated Tomb Raider series. The streaming giant confirmed that the second season of Tomb Raider The Legend of Lara Croft is scheduled to premiere on December 11. However, in a surprising move, Netflix also revealed that this upcoming season will be the project’s last, bringing the animated adventure to a close.

The show, produced by Legendary Television, first launched on the platform in October of 2024. It features the voice of Hayley Atwell, known for her role as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the iconic Lara Croft.

For fans of the franchise who are disappointed by the show’s cancellation, there are more Tomb Raider projects in the pipeline. On the live-action front, Amazon is moving forward with its own take on the property. Filming for this new series is set to begin in January. It was recently announced that Sophie Turner, famous for her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, has been cast as the lead, taking on the mantle of Lara Croft. A release date for the Amazon series has not yet been established.

In the gaming world, development continues on a new Tomb Raider title. The game is being worked on by Crystal Dynamics, the studio behind many of the franchise’s previous entries. The company recently underwent a round of layoffs, but it has publicly stated that the development of the next Tomb Raider game will not be impacted by the organizational changes.
