Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement was made during a recent Nintendo Direct presentation, with a release date set for January 22, 2026. This version of the game will include the full base game along with the Episode Intermission DLC expansion.
This title is the first part of a planned trilogy that reimagines the classic 1997 JRPG. The game largely takes place within the sprawling metropolis of Midgar, focusing on the eco-terrorist group Avalanche’s fight against the sinister Shinra Electric Power Company. Players will have to wait for the second game, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, to experience the vast overworld beyond the city, and a Switch 2 version for that title has not yet been confirmed.
The included Episode Intermission DLC features the nimble ninja Yuffie Kisaragi on a separate mission to infiltrate Midgar and steal powerful materia from Shinra. This story arc runs parallel to and concludes after the events of the main campaign.
A trailer for the Switch 2 port was shown, and the visuals appear to be impressive, suggesting the new hardware is capable of handling the game’s demanding graphics. The original Final Fantasy VII Remake was first released on PlayStation 4 in 2020, with this Intergrade version launching on PlayStation 5 and PC in 2021. The game was praised for its deep combat system, stunning visuals, and ambitious expansion of the original story, even with its significant narrative departures.
The sequel, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, launched in early 2024 to widespread critical acclaim. A third and final game to complete the remake trilogy is currently in development, though its title and release window remain unknown. The arrival of this first chapter on Nintendo’s next console opens up the celebrated remake project to a new audience of players.
