Meta Unveils Horizon TV, A New VR Entertainment Hub With Disney Plus and Major Streaming Partners Mark Zuckerberg has introduced Horizon TV, a new entertainment hub designed for the company’s Quest virtual reality headsets. The announcement was made during the recent Meta Connect event, where the company also revealed its latest generation of augmented reality and smart glasses. Zuckerberg stated that Meta believes watching video content is poised to become a massive category for both VR headsets and smart glasses in the future. To that end, the company has secured partnerships with several major streaming services to bring their libraries directly into the virtual reality experience. One of the key partners is Disney Plus. This collaboration will give Quest users access to the vast Marvel Cinematic Universe directly through their headsets. The hub will also provide content from other Disney-owned platforms, including ESPN and Hulu. The interface demonstrated by Zuckerberg showed that Horizon TV will serve as a unified portal, offering easy access to a variety of popular services. These include Prime Video, Spotify, Peacock, and the live streaming platform Twitch. This integration means users can watch shows like The Boys and Fallout on their virtual reality devices without needing to switch between different apps. Beyond mainstream streaming, Meta is also venturing into exclusive content. The company has partnered with Universal Pictures and the iconic horror production company Blumhouse. This partnership will offer Quest users exclusive access to horror films such as M3GAN and The Black Phone. Meta promises these viewings will come with immersive special effects that are unique to the VR platform and cannot be found anywhere else. To enhance the viewing experience, the Horizon TV hub will support high-quality audio and video formats. It launches with support for Dolby Atmos, providing users with immersive, three-dimensional sound. Later this year, the platform will also add support for Dolby Vision, which is expected to deliver richer colors and crisper visual details to the content. As part of a separate partnership with James Cameron’s Lightstorm Vision, Meta is also offering a limited-time exclusive. Viewers will be able to watch a special 3D clip from the upcoming Avatar film, Avatar: Fire and Ash, within the Horizon TV environment. This offering is designed to showcase the potential of immersive entertainment within the metaverse. Horizon TV represents Meta’s significant push to position its VR hardware as a central device for consuming media, moving beyond its core identity in gaming and social interaction. By aggregating major streaming services and offering exclusive, immersive content, Meta aims to make its Quest headsets a primary destination for home entertainment.
