Housemarque Reveals Saros Gameplay and Release Date for PS5 Sony delivered on its promise to show the first gameplay for Saros, the next title from Returnal developer Housemarque, during its recent State of Play presentation. This marks the studio’s first entirely new project since being acquired by PlayStation Studios in 2021, and it was given the opening slot in the livestream. Creative director Gregory Louden guided viewers through an introduction to the game’s protagonist, Arjun Devraj, voiced by actor Rahul Kohli. The story follows Arjun as he searches for answers on a mysterious, shape-shifting planet known as Carcosa. The gameplay footage immediately calls to mind the fast-paced, bullet-hell style combat that Housemarque is known for, featuring a screen filled with colorful lasers, projectiles, and environmental hazards that players must deftly avoid. The demo showcased some of Arjun’s key abilities. He can deploy a shield for defense, which also has an offensive function. This shield can catch incoming enemy fire and redirect it to power up a special weapon, turning defensive maneuvers into attacks. The game will also include a revival mechanic, giving players a second chance to survive an encounter after their first death. However, this ability is part of a permanent progression system and must be unlocked. Players can expect to upgrade Arjun’s combat suit and various other abilities throughout the game. True to Housemarque’s reputation for visual polish, the game looks stunning. Alongside the gameplay reveal, a specific release date was confirmed. Saros is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 on March 20, 2026.
