Microsoft Introduces New Premium Subscription Blending Office and Advanced AI Microsoft is expanding its lineup of subscription plans with a new offering called Microsoft 365 Premium. This plan is priced at twenty dollars per month and bundles the standard Office productivity suite with access to OpenAIs most advanced models, specifically GPT five and four o, along with increased AI usage limits. The company is positioning this new tier as a more valuable package than OpenAIs own ChatGPT Plus, which also costs twenty dollars monthly. Microsoft highlights that its plan includes the full Office application suite and one terabyte of OneDrive cloud storage, benefits not available with a standalone ChatGPT Plus subscription. This move creates a curious dynamic as Microsoft and OpenAI are known to be close partners. For the moment, Microsoft is leaving the pricing of its existing lower tier plans unchanged. The Microsoft 365 Personal plan remains at ten dollars a month, and the Family plan stays at thirteen dollars monthly. This announcement follows closely on the heels of another price increase from Microsoft, which recently raised the cost of its Game Pass Ultimate subscription to thirty dollars a month. In one sense, the new Microsoft 365 Premium plan simplifies the companys subscription landscape. Previously, a user on a cheaper Microsoft 365 plan would have needed to purchase an additional Copilot Pro subscription for twenty dollars a month to gain higher AI usage limits. A company representative has confirmed that the Copilot Pro plan is no longer available for new purchases, though existing subscribers can continue their service without being automatically migrated to the new Premium tier. Subscribers to Microsoft 365 Premium will gain access to OpenAIs GPT five and four o models. The plan also includes AI agents such as Actions, Researcher, and Analyst, which are Microsofts counterparts to the agents offered in OpenAIs ChatGPT plan. Premium users will also have the opportunity to test new AI features as they are released by Microsoft. However, the subscription does not include access to OpenAIs custom GPTs or the Sora video generation model. Update on October first, 2025 at 3:33 PM added details regarding the discontinuation of the Copilot Pro plan for new subscribers.
