The device, officially named the Samsung Galaxy XR according to the leak, is positioned as a blend of the Meta Quest Pro and the Apple Vision Pro. It features an adjustable headband, functions primarily as passthrough goggles to view the real world, and is powered by an external battery pack. While Samsung’s demonstrations highlighted voice commands and eye and hand tracking via built-in cameras and microphones, the new report confirms the headset will also support two physical controller accessories that bear a strong resemblance to Meta’s Touch Plus controllers for the Quest 3. The internal hardware and software experience align with previous expectations. The Galaxy XR will be powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor, which Qualcomm announced in 2024 as the foundation for new mixed reality devices. For software, Samsung is using a version of Android XR customized with its One UI interface. This could contribute to better comfort during use. The final missing pieces are the official price and release date.
