Minecraft Movie Sequel Officially Greenlit

A Minecraft Movie Sequel Is Officially Happening If Hollywood has taught us anything, it is that a blockbuster that makes a fortune will get a sequel. After the first A Minecraft Movie delivered surprisingly effective humor and a massive 957 million dollar box office payday, it is no surprise that Warner Bros. has officially greenlit a follow-up. Variety reports that Warner Bros. has scheduled the sequel for a July 23, 2027, release date. This places the premiere roughly two years after the original film, which currently stands as the second-highest-grossing movie of the year, trailing only Disney’s Lilo and Stitch, which has earned 1.03 billion dollars. The sequel is expected to bring back director Jared Hess, the creator of Napoleon Dynamite. Hess will also co-write the new screenplay with Chris Galletta. The producing team is said to include Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans Olafsson, and Jason Momoa. Many were taken aback by how good the first A Minecraft Movie actually was. The concept of a film based on an open-ended building game, starring an actor from the poorly received Borderlands movie, did not initially sound promising. However, the film proved to be surprisingly funny, striking the right balance with its winking self-awareness. It was also praised for delivering a solid message about championing creativity in a world that often discourages free-thinking non-conformists. The success and positive reception have now paved the way for another trip to the blocky world.
