Tesla Pushes Boundaries Again With Mad Max Self Driving Mode Tesla has introduced a new and controversial setting to its Full Self Driving suite, and it is drawing immediate criticism for its apparent disregard for traffic laws. The feature is called Mad Max mode, and it reportedly pushes the vehicle to drive at higher speeds and perform more aggressive lane changes than the existing Hurry mode. This is not a completely new feature for Tesla. A mode with the same name was previously available in the companys Autopilot system back in 2018. Its reintroduction is already proving problematic. According to reports, within the first day of its release, vehicles using Mad Max mode were observed rolling through stop signs and exceeding speed limits by more than 15 miles per hour. The timing of this launch is particularly brazen. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration just opened a fresh investigation into Teslas Full Self Driving system last week. That probe was initiated after the regulator received more than 50 reports of traffic safety violations linked to the system, in addition to numerous crashes. This is merely the latest in a long series of federal investigations targeting Teslas driver assistance technology. Introducing an automated driving mode named after a dystopian franchise where societal rules have collapsed, and doing so in the middle of an active federal safety investigation, demonstrates a level of corporate arrogance that many have come to expect from Tesla. What some might see as a comically bad idea is, in reality, a potentially dangerous development for road safety. The move underscores the companys willingness to test regulatory limits and prioritize aggressive driving profiles over cautious, law-abiding operation.
