AirPods Break Language Barriers

Apple to Launch Live Translation for AirPods in EU After Brief Delay Apple has confirmed it will bring its AI-powered Live Translation feature to AirPods in the European Union this December. The announcement follows a previous warning from the company that the rollout could be slowed due to the region’s Digital Markets Act. This expansion is a significant development, as Live Translation was a major highlight of the recently launched AirPods Pro 3. The feature will become available next month for AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, and the AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. When active, Live Translation automatically translates spoken conversation in real time between several languages. Supported languages include English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Chinese in both Simplified and Traditional Mandarin, Japanese, and Korean. A key function allows for seamless translation between two people each wearing a pair of AirPods. The system intelligently lowers the volume of the original speaker’s voice, making the translated audio easier to understand. Back in September, Apple had cautioned that compliance with the EU’s Digital Markets Act might delay the feature. The company stated that extra engineering work was necessary to ensure the privacy of translated conversations, specifically to prevent them from being exposed to other companies or developers. Early impressions of the feature have been positive. In a review of the AirPods Pro 3, the Live Translation capability was noted as a useful addition to an already strong product. For users eager to try the feature ahead of the official December release, it is already accessible in the EU on Apple Intelligence-capable iPhones running the iOS 26.2 developer beta with supported AirPods. A public beta of this software update is also expected to be available soon.
