Jeff Bezos Launches Secretive AI Venture Project Prometheus Jeff Bezos is diving back into the startup world, co-founding and co-leading a new artificial intelligence company named Project Prometheus. According to a report, the venture has secured a massive 6.2 billion dollars in funding, with Bezos himself contributing a significant portion. The company has been operating in stealth mode and has not yet been formally announced to the public. Project Prometheus aims to carve out a unique niche in the crowded AI field. Instead of focusing on digital chatbots that process information from the internet, the company will develop AI systems that learn from and interact with the physical world. The primary application for this technology will be in engineering and manufacturing, with a specific interest in advancing vehicle and space technology. This aligns perfectly with Bezos long term interests, as he founded the space flight company Blue Origin over twenty years ago. Blue Origin recently celebrated the second successful flight of its New Glenn rocket. Joining Bezos as co-founder and co-CEO is Vik Bajaj, a scientist with a background in physics and chemistry. Bajaj has an impressive track record in moonshot projects, having worked on initiatives like Wing and Waymo during his time at Google X. He is also a co-founder of Foresite Labs, an organization that supports entrepreneurs in AI and data science. Bajajs LinkedIn profile lists his new role at Project Prometheus as starting this month and notes the company has locations in San Francisco, London, and Zurich. He is still listed as the CEO of Foresite Labs on its website. The new companys own LinkedIn presence is currently minimal, describing its mission simply as AI for the physical economy. It categorizes itself as a technology company and states it has between 51 and 200 employees. The report indicates that Project Prometheus has been on a hiring spree, bringing on nearly 100 people, with some recruits coming from leading AI firms like OpenAI and DeepMind. This move signals Bezos continued and significant investment in the frontiers of technology, combining his passion for space and engineering with the transformative potential of next generation artificial intelligence. Project Prometheus is positioned to tackle real world engineering challenges by building AI that can understand and operate within the physical realm.
