Control 2: Dylan’s Warped Manhattan Mission

Control Resonant Unveiled as Remedy’s Next Big Step into the Weird Remedy Entertainment has pulled back the curtain on Control Resonant, the next major entry in the Remedy Connected Universe. Set to launch in 2026 for PC, Mac, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, this sequel promises a dramatic shift in perspective and gameplay, trading the halls of the Oldest House for a transformed Manhattan and swapping gunplay for melee brawling. The story picks up seven years after the events of Control. The supernatural Hiss invasion has breached containment and now ravages Manhattan, twisting the city into an otherworldly nightmare. With Bureau Director Jesse Faden missing, the desperate Federal Bureau of Control turns to the only other person who might stem the tide: her brother, the powerful and unsettling entity Dylan Faden. For Dylan, a character who spent his life confined within the Oldest House, Manhattan is an alien landscape. His mission is dual: find his sister and stop the invasion from consuming the world. To do so, he must fully embrace his latent powers, with occasional, cryptic guidance from the mysterious Board. Creative director Mikael Kasurinen explained the thematic core, framing the siblings as two sides of the same coin. Where Jesse’s journey was one of entering and mastering the Oldest House, Dylan’s is about exiting into a vast, unknown reality. The studio designed the games to be standalone experiences that can be played in any order, each reflecting a sibling’s unique path. This new perspective brings a radical change in combat. Abandoning the third-person shooting of the original, Control Resonant focuses on aggressive, melee-driven action. Dylan wields a shapeshifting weapon that can morph from short blades to a massive hammer, enabling fluid, combo-heavy combat reminiscent of character action games like Devil May Cry or Nier Automata. The developers noted that this shift directly influenced the game’s environment design. Moving away from a cover-based shooting model allowed them to create larger, more open-ended spaces for exploration without compromising the pace. The result is a more intimate and relentless combat style where players aggressively close in on enemies. Visually, the game draws clear inspiration from the seminal anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, evident in its depiction of a corrupted, inverted urban landscape and its enigmatic, psychologically fraught protagonist. While not an open-world game, Remedy calls it their most expansive project to date, featuring an Inception-style, morphing version of Manhattan to explore. Control Resonant continues to weave threads from across the Remedy Connected Universe, including events from Alan Wake 2. It aims to up the ante on the series signature new-weird atmosphere, blending bizarre discovery with over-the-top supernatural action. By placing the unsettling Dylan at the forefront and reimagining its combat, Remedy is crafting what looks to be a bold and refreshing evolution for the Control series.
