Ayaneo Reveals More Affordable Pocket Vert Retro Handheld Following the premium priced Pocket DMG, Ayaneo is targeting budget conscious retro gamers with a new classic Game Boy inspired device called the Pocket Vert. Early bird pricing will start at 269 dollars, a significant drop from the 449 dollar retail cost of the Pocket DMG. To achieve this lower price point, Ayaneo made several specification changes. The Pocket Vert moves from an OLED display to a 3.5 inch LCD screen, though it maintains a high 1600 by 1440 pixel resolution. It also scales back on maximum memory and storage configurations. The device is built around a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor, which the company states is capable of emulating systems up to the PlayStation 2 and even some Nintendo Switch titles. The design philosophy has shifted as well. The Pocket Vert features a fully metal CNC machined body with an ultra minimalist aesthetic. The buttons are engraving free, drawing a visual comparison to the clean look of the Analogue Pocket. For controlling more modern games that require analog sticks, Ayaneo incorporated a hidden touchpad located beneath the face buttons to function as a makeshift joystick. Additional features include a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button, a USB C port for charging and data, a standard 3.5 millimeter headphone jack, and a microSD card slot for expanding the built in storage. The Pocket Vert will be offered in three color options at launch. Eternal Night Black and Lunar White will be available across all configurations. The top tier model, which comes with 12 gigabytes of memory and 256 gigabytes of storage, will be exclusive to a Lava Red color finish. Sales for the handheld will be conducted through an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign. This will be the only avenue to secure the early bird pricing. After the campaign concludes, the retail price is set to increase. The base model will rise from 269 dollars to 339 dollars. The fully specced Lava Red model will see its price increase from an early bird cost of 369 dollars to a standard price of 439 dollars. The Indiegogo page is not yet live for orders.
