Traeger’s Budget-Friendly Smart Grill

Traeger Expands Budget Options with New Westwood Pellet Grill Series Traeger is pushing further into the affordable segment of the pellet grill market with its new Westwood series. This launch follows last year’s introduction of the more accessible Woodridge model, aiming to offer basic smart grilling at a lower entry point. The Westwood series consists of two models, priced at 700 and 800 dollars. They offer a simplified, no-frills design compared to Traeger’s premium Ironwood and Timberline lines. The controller is button-based instead of using a dial, with dedicated buttons for temperature control, probe functions, Wi-Fi, and ignition. Despite the budget focus, Traeger has included core smart features. The grills maintain Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing users to monitor and control cooking sessions remotely through the Traeger app. The temperature range spans from 180 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, supporting everything from low-and-slow smoking to higher-heat grilling and roasting. Inside, the cooking chamber features a two-tier grate system. The standard Westwood provides 653 square inches of cooking space, while the larger Westwood XL offers 823 square inches. The side-mounted pellet hopper holds 18 pounds of fuel. The grills also retain compatibility with Traeger’s rail-based Pop and Lock accessory system, which includes items like a folding front shelf. To reach these lower price points, Traeger made several compromises. The Westwood grills lack features found on more expensive models, such as a Super Smoke mode for extra smoky flavor and a Keep Warm function. They come with support for only one wired meat probe, though an 80-dollar wireless probe accessory is available for additional monitoring. There is also no mention of a pellet sensor in the hopper to alert users to low fuel levels. This new series effectively replaces the longstanding Pro series in Traeger’s lineup, now representing the brand’s most affordable offering. The launch comes during a period of financial difficulty for the company, which has received a continued listing notice from the NYSE and is undergoing a corporate restructuring. The Traeger Westwood and Westwood XL are now available for purchase at retailers including Ace Hardware.
