Apple’s Emoji Wordle Hits News+

Apple Launches Emoji Game for News+ Subscribers in US and Canada

Apple has introduced a new Emoji Game exclusively for its News+ subscribers in the US and Canada, coinciding with World Emoji Day. Originally announced at WWDC earlier this year for iOS 26, the game is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices running iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS 15.4 or later.

The Emoji Game follows a format similar to word-based puzzles like Wordle, where players fill in missing letters to guess words or phrases. However, instead of typing letters, users must complete the blanks with emoji. For example, if the word pineapple is missing the letters for apple, players would insert the apple emoji. Similarly, if the phrase the night is young is missing the word young, the baby emoji would be the correct choice.

In addition to standard emoji, the game incorporates Genmoji, custom emoji generated using Apple Intelligence. Each round consists of three phrases to solve. Players can reveal hints embedded in the phrases, but doing so consumes one of their limited moves.

The game is accessible in the Puzzles section of the Apple News app, with plans to integrate it into the upcoming Apple Games app later this year. An Apple News+ subscription costs $13 per month and includes access to magazines, newspapers, audio stories, regional publications, and daily puzzles like crosswords and sudoku.

The Emoji Game adds a playful twist to traditional word puzzles, leveraging emoji to engage users in a fresh and interactive way.
