Google’s Circle to Search feature has received a significant upgrade, now offering the ability to translate text in real time as a user scrolls through content on their Android device. This enhancement addresses a major limitation of the initial tool, which required users to restart the translation process every time the on-screen content changed.
The new continuous translation function is designed to provide a seamless experience for users who frequently encounter foreign languages. Google highlights its utility for understanding social media posts from creators who speak different languages or for browsing restaurant menus while traveling abroad. Activating the feature is straightforward; users simply tap the Translate icon and then select the new scroll and translate menu option.
A key advantage of this update is its persistence. The translation overlay remains active and functional not only while scrolling within the original app but also if the user switches to a different application. Google emphasizes that this transition happens without any interruption, making the tool highly practical for multitasking.
The rollout for this update is currently in progress for Android users. Samsung Galaxy device owners are the first to receive the feature, with a broader release to other Android smartphones expected to follow shortly.
This real-time translation capability is the latest in a series of improvements for Circle to Search. The tool was recently updated to allow for one-tap actions on detected information such as phone numbers, email addresses, and URLs, further expanding its utility beyond simple web searches.
