DoorDash and Wing Launch Drone Food Delivery in Metro Atlanta DoorDash and Wing, the drone delivery subsidiary of Alphabet, have expanded their partnership to bring aerial food delivery to the metro Atlanta area. This move marks a significant step in scaling drone delivery services for a major food delivery platform. Eligible customers located near the Tanger Outlets in Locust Grove can now order from a select group of restaurants, including Molinos Mexican Grill, Koji Japanese Steakhouse, and Sabrosos Mexican Restaurant, for delivery by drone. DoorDash promises delivery times as fast as 20 minutes. Access to the service is based on proximity and order specifications. Customers must live within a specific delivery zone, and orders are constrained by size and weight limitations. To check eligibility, Wing provides an online address lookup tool. Those outside the current zone can sign up to be notified if the service area grows. This Atlanta expansion builds on the existing partnership between DoorDash and Wing, which already operates in select regions of Virginia, North Carolina, and Texas. Wing has also been broadening its own network, recently expanding a separate delivery agreement with Walmart to serve more locations. The initiative reflects a broader industry trend toward automation in last-mile delivery. DoorDash has previously experimented with ground-based robotics, deploying its own delivery robot named Dot and partnering with firms like Coco Robotics for sidewalk robot deliveries in cities such as Miami, Los Angeles, and Chicago. For Wing, technological advancements are enabling these commercial partnerships. In 2024, the company unveiled a new drone design capable of carrying payloads up to five pounds, a crucial upgrade that makes delivering typical restaurant orders more feasible. The launch in Atlanta represents a continued push by both companies to normalize unmanned aerial delivery, offering a potential glimpse at a faster and increasingly automated future for on-demand services.
