EA Navigates a Landmark Month with Record Game Sales and a Major Acquisition Electronic Arts has just experienced a monumental period, defined by a massive corporate shift and a record-shattering game launch. The company recently confirmed its agreement to be taken private in a staggering 55 billion dollar acquisition. Adding to the news, the newly released Battlefield 6 has proven to be a colossal success, selling over 7 million copies in its first three days on the market. This sales figure makes Battlefield 6 the biggest opening in the history of the long-running franchise. The game’s launch weekend was a hive of activity, with players engaging in over 172 million online matches and watching more than 15 million hours of gameplay on various streaming platforms. The performance significantly outpaces the previous series entry, Battlefield 2042, which reportedly sold 4.2 million copies in its entire first week. The celebratory tone was evident in official statements from EA executives. Franchise General Manager Byron Beede led with gratitude, stating that the team wants to first and foremost thank its players. Executive VP Vince Zampella echoed the sentiment, expressing sincere gratitude to the global Battlefield studios and the passionate community for helping reach this milestone. This successful game launch comes just weeks after the announcement of the company’s planned transition to private ownership. The consortium set to acquire the gaming giant includes the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. However, this move has not been met with universal approval internally. Unionized EA staffers have publicly voiced their concerns about the acquisition, warning that such deals often result in workers losing visibility, transparency, and power when private equity or billionaire investors take control. Battlefield 6 launched on October 10 and is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Players will not have to wait long for new content, as the game’s first season is scheduled to begin on October 28.
