Guerrilla Games has officially announced Horizon Hunters Gathering, a cooperative action spin-off set in the Horizon universe. This new title is in development for PlayStation 5 and PC, expanding the popular franchise beyond its single-player roots. The game is designed as a tactical co-op experience where players team up to hunt the franchise’s iconic robotic creatures. It adopts a more stylized visual aesthetic compared to the photorealistic look of the main Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West games. Game director Arjan Bak described the combat as building on the series’ tactical precision while introducing dynamics for team play. The game will feature multiple replayable modes. Machine Incursion focuses on battling waves of enemies culminating in a boss fight. Cauldron Descent is a longer, multi-stage mode where teams progress through a series of chambers containing combat encounters and hidden challenges. Players will choose from a roster of hunters, each with unique weapons and playstyles. The game incorporates a roguelite perk system, allowing players to customize their hunter’s build during each mission run. A social hub will serve as a base for customizing characters, visiting shops, upgrading gear, and forming teams. While focused on multiplayer, Horizon Hunters Gathering will include a canonical narrative campaign with new story elements, characters, and threats. This story can be experienced in solo play with AI companions or cooperatively with friends. The developers plan to support the game with new adventures post-launch. The title will support cross-play and cross-progression between PlayStation 5 and PC platforms. Guerrilla Games has announced the first closed playtest will begin later this month. Interested players can register through the PlayStation Beta Program. More details about the game are expected in the coming months.
