Microsoft has expanded its cloud gaming capabilities by enabling 1440p streaming on Xbox consoles. This enhancement is now rolling out to users, offering a sharper visual experience for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers who stream games directly to their Xbox hardware. Previously, 1440p streaming was limited to select smart TVs, web browsers, and the Xbox PC app. Now, owners of an Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One X, or Xbox One can access the higher resolution stream, provided both the game and their display support it. Game streaming is a central feature of the Game Pass subscription service, which also allows users to stream games they own outside the Game Pass library. Alongside the resolution boost, Microsoft announced updates for the Xbox PC app and the ASUS ROG Ally handheld devices. The PC app now features navigation sounds that activate when using a controller to browse, designed to make the interface feel more responsive. For the ROG Ally and Ally X, updates include simplified tools for formatting removable storage like microSD cards and driver improvements to boost game compatibility. These updates arrive during a period of significant leadership change for Microsoft Gaming. Former CEO Phil Spencer recently announced his retirement. Asha Sharma, President of Microsoft’s CoreAI division, has been named as his successor, sparking discussion about the future direction of the Xbox brand under new management.
