Google Pixel 10 Series Impresses with AI and Hardware Upgrades

We have reviewed half of the Pixel 10 series, and Google continues to improve its phones in very tangible ways. We scored the Pixel 10 Pro a 94, a high score that is well deserved. With brighter screens, a faster Tensor G5 chip, and a bigger battery, many of the improvements are software-based. A key feature is Magic Cue, which uses on-device AI to surface relevant information from apps, reducing the need to hop between them.

The camera app introduces Camera Coach for shooting directions and to highlight various camera modes. While the camera hardware is largely unchanged, the Pixel 10 Pro has a new Pro Res Zoom feature. It uses generative AI for up to 100x zoom, reportedly delivering sharper and better looking results than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s zoom. This year’s Pixels also support magnetic Qi2 wireless charging with what Google calls Pixelsnap, effectively making it MagSafe for Pixels.

For those seeking a more affordable option, the standard Pixel 10 now includes a 5x telephoto lens. This surpasses other base flagships like the S25 with 3x and the iPhone 16 with 2x. It also incorporates all the Gemini AI features found in the Pro device. The new Indigo Blue color is also a standout.

Reviews for the new Pixel Watch and Pixel 10 Pro Fold are expected over the next few months, with the Pro Fold set for an October release.

Apple Sets September 9 Event for iPhone 17 and Possibly iPhone Air

Apple has announced its awe dropping iPhone event for September 9. Alongside what is expected to be called the iPhone 17, we might see the super-thin iPhone Air. Rumored to be approximately 5.55 mm thick, it would be the thinnest iPhone yet, though this might mean a single camera and a smaller battery. Details are still to be confirmed. We are also expecting to see new Apple Watch models, including the first new Ultra model in two years, and possibly the long-awaited AirPods Pro 3.

Gamescom 2025 Highlights and Silksong Release Date

Gamescom has concluded, with a major highlight being an actual launch date for Hollow Knight: Silksong, which is set for September 4. The influence of this highly anticipated follow-up has led other indie publishers to shift their game launches to avoid competing with it. Reports from the show cover games like Silent Hill f, Resident Evil Requiem, and Outer Worlds 2.

Google Translate Adds New Language Learning Tools

Google is expanding its Translate app with new language learning tools designed to improve conversation skills. The feature tailors listening and practice sessions based on your current level and motivation, even asking why you are learning a language. It creates customized scenarios for listening or speaking practice with helpful hints and tracks your daily progress. Currently, it supports English speakers practicing Spanish and French, and Spanish, French, and Portuguese speakers working on their English. The company also introduced improved AI-powered live translations.
