Google Pixel Watch 4 May Ditch Pogo Pins for Wireless Charging
The upcoming Pixel Watch 4 could introduce a major charging overhaul when it launches in the coming weeks. Leaked renders suggest Google is moving away from the pogo pin charging system used in previous models, opting instead for a simpler wireless charging solution.
The renders depict the Pixel Watch 4 charging on its side in a stand, displaying battery level, time, and upcoming alarms—similar to Apple’s nightstand mode. The stand reportedly powers the watch through conductive metal contacts on the left side, opposite the digital crown. Earlier leaks also hinted at a slightly thicker design for the Pixel Watch 4, possibly to accommodate new hardware.
This charging redesign could bring several improvements. Reports indicate a 25 percent faster charging speed, space for additional sensors, and easier repairability thanks to a removable back plate. The shift to wireless charging may also enhance durability by eliminating the wear and tear associated with pogo pins.
Beyond charging, the Pixel Watch 4 is rumored to feature a brighter display and new color options. While the Pixel Watch 3 comes in Polished Silver, Champagne Gold, and Matte Black, the next model may add a blueish-gray Moonstone variant alongside the existing shades.
Google is expected to unveil the Pixel Watch 4 alongside the Pixel 10 series on August 20. The event could also showcase other hardware and software updates, making it a key moment for Google’s wearable and smartphone lineup.
With a refined charging system and potential hardware upgrades, the Pixel Watch 4 may address some of the criticisms of its predecessors while keeping pace with competitors in the smartwatch market.
