DualSense Gets Multi-Device Power-Up PS5 Update Boosts Controller, Saves Energy Sony’s Smarter, Greener PS5 Update Power Saver Mode Joins Enhanced Pairing

Sony is about to make life significantly easier for gamers who use their PlayStation controllers across multiple devices. A new system update for the PS5, which begins rolling out soon, will finally introduce the multi-device pairing feature that the company previewed earlier this year. This update solves a long-standing frustration. Until now, switching a DualSense controller from a PS5 to a PC or mobile device required a tedious process of unpairing it from one device and then repairing it to the next. That cumbersome routine is officially over. The new setup process is straightforward. After installing the update, you can pair your controller to several devices. With the DualSense powered off, you simply press and hold the PS button along with one of the four main action buttons: triangle, circle, cross, or square. Hold this combination for more than five seconds until the light bar flashes twice. Then, go to the Bluetooth settings on your target device, whether it’s a Windows PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, or Android gadget, and pair it like any other accessory. Each action button represents a dedicated slot for a different device. You can save pairings for up to four separate gadgets. Once everything is set up, switching between your console and your computer is instantaneous. Just hold the PS button and the specific action button you assigned to that device, and the controller will seamlessly connect. Alongside this highly requested feature, the update also brings a new energy-saving option to the PS5. Within the system settings, a new Power Saver mode will be available. When enabled for supported games, this feature reduces the console’s energy consumption by scaling back its performance. It is important to note that this is an opt-in feature. Sony was clear that games will perform exactly as they always have unless a user deliberately turns on Power Saver. Furthermore, game developers must patch their titles to support this new mode. The first games expected to be compatible include the upcoming Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, the PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls, and Ghost of Yotei. While some may question the appeal of a performance trade-off for battery life, the option provides a way for environmentally conscious players to reduce their console’s power draw during gameplay, offering a small but meaningful step toward greener gaming. This update, headlined by the incredibly convenient multi-device pairing, delivers a quality-of-life improvement that many players have been waiting for.
