Samsung Wallet Keys Porsche EVs

Samsung Wallet Adds Digital Key Support for Porsche Electric Vehicles Owners of the Porsche Macan Electric and the upcoming Porsche Cayenne Electric will soon be able to unlock and start their vehicles using their Samsung Galaxy phones. Samsung has announced the integration of Porsche digital keys into its Samsung Wallet app, expanding the feature beyond its existing support for select Volvo and Polestar EVs. The functionality leverages a secure Ultra-Wideband or NFC connection, allowing users to lock, unlock, and start their Porsche directly from their compatible phone. For security, if a phone is lost or stolen, the digital key can be remotely locked or deleted entirely to prevent unauthorized access to the vehicle. The rollout will begin in Europe this December, with a global expansion to follow. Samsung states the wider availability will be aligned with the launch timelines of the Porsche vehicles themselves. Samsung Wallet is available on a wide range of Galaxy devices, including models as old as the Galaxy S20, Note 20, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2. This move places Samsung’s digital car key capability in direct competition with similar features offered by Apple and Google for their respective devices. The Digital Key feature, first introduced by Samsung in 2021, is part of the company’s broader vision for Samsung Wallet as a comprehensive digital hub. Beyond car keys, the app is designed to store payment cards, digital IDs, and facilitate peer-to-peer money transfers with a tap.
