Spotify Expands Audiobook Access with New Premium Add-On
Spotify is widely known for its music and podcast offerings, but Premium subscribers also get 15 hours of audiobook listening per month. For users who want more, the platform has introduced Audiobooks+, a new subscription add-on that doubles the monthly listening time.
The add-on was first tested in Ireland and Canada and is now rolling out to Premium Individual and Plan members in select European countries, Australia, and New Zealand. Subscribers who opt in will receive an extra 15 hours of audiobook access on top of their existing allowance. The base Premium Individual plan costs $12 per month in the U.S.
For Premium Family ($20/month) and Duo ($17/month) subscribers, the plan manager must purchase the add-on. They also have the option to buy a one-time 10-hour top-up if they exhaust their monthly limit before it resets.
In the U.S., Spotify already offers a standalone Audiobooks Access plan, which includes ad-supported music and podcasts. However, Audiobooks+ is designed specifically for Premium users looking for additional listening time.
Pricing varies by region. In the U.K., the add-on costs ยฃ9 per month (around $12), while the Premium Individual plan is priced at ยฃ12 (about $16). Spotify has confirmed that Audiobooks+ will launch in the U.S. in the coming weeks, though exact pricing has not yet been announced.
This move highlights Spotifyโs push to diversify its content offerings beyond music and podcasts, catering to audiobook enthusiasts who want more flexibility in their listening habits.
