TCL Launches Note A1 NXTPAPER, A Colorful Android Rival to E Ink Note-Takers Following the recent Kindle Scribe Colorosoft, TCL is entering the dedicated note-taking device arena with its own offering. The new TCL Note A1 NXTPAPER takes a different technological path, opting not for E Ink but for the company’s own NXTPAPER display technology. This custom paper-like LCD screen aims to deliver a comfortable reading and writing experience akin to E Ink, but without some of the traditional drawbacks like slower refresh rates and muted colors. The Note A1 features an 11.5-inch color NXTPAPER Pure display with a resolution of 2,200 x 1,440 and a notably smooth 120Hz refresh rate. This specification suggests the screen will be more responsive and fluid for writing and navigating compared to current color E Ink panels found on devices like the reMarkable Paper Pro. Positioned as a productivity-first tool, the Note A1 runs on Android and comes equipped with a T-Pen Pro stylus for note-taking and drawing. A key differentiator is its integrated audio capability, featuring eight built-in microphones designed for recording and transcribing audio, potentially useful for lectures or meetings. Other hardware includes a 13-megapixel camera for document scanning, 256GB of internal storage, and an 8,000mAh battery. The device also supports cloud storage services like Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. TCL is emphasizing AI-powered features to organize and process handwritten notes. Promised software capabilities include real-time translation and handwriting beautification, though the company has not yet clarified if the device will have full access to the Google Play Store. The TCL Note A1 NXTPAPER presents an intriguing alternative in the growing market for digital notepads, combining its color LCD technology with robust audio features. It is available for order now through a Kickstarter campaign, which offers early bonuses and discounts. The device is scheduled for general release at the end of February with a retail price of $549.
