Pixel 10 AI Shines, Sony Camera Stumbles

Fall is here and so is the annual flagship phone season. The latest big launch comes from Google with its new Pixel 10 series, a lineup that puts artificial intelligence front and center. We have spent time testing these new phones, along with some of the best noise canceling earbuds available and a new compact camera from Sony. Here is a look at our recent reviews.

Google Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL

Google may have finally created a smartphone that truly lives up to the smart part of its name. The standout features of the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL are their AI capabilities, particularly the new Magic Cue function. After ten generations of devices, the company’s long term strategy is clearer and more convincing than ever. For these new models, Google has combined thoughtful hardware improvements with a solid and attractive design, while its software and AI continue to outpace the competition.

Google Pixel 10

If the Pro models are making the smartphone smarter, the standard Pixel 10 is redefining what a base level flagship can be. It offers a more capable camera, increased power, and Qi2 wireless charging support, making the more expensive Pro models a harder sell for many. The Pixel 10 is a substantial upgrade from its predecessor, though it is a shame that some software features from last year’s models did not carry over. For anyone who is not a die hard mobile gamer, it is difficult to find a more capable smartphone at this price point.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds Second Generation

The second generation of Bose’s premium earbuds is not a complete redesign, but it did not need to be. The company took its already best in class active noise cancellation and made it even stronger. Other improvements include better call clarity and a handful of other thoughtful adjustments. Simply put, the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds remain the top option for anyone seeking wireless noise canceling earbuds, and that is not likely to change for the foreseeable future.

Sony RX1R III

Waiting a long time for a product update can lead to high expectations, which often results in disappointment. That was the case with the new Sony RX1R III camera. It is missing several key features that the company really should have included for it to compete properly against other high end compact cameras. It is a device that is easy to love for its core concept, but it is unfortunately difficult to recommend due to its shortcomings and high price.
