TikTok is launching its inaugural awards show in the United States. The event, called the TikTok Awards, is scheduled for December 18 at 9PM ET. It will be a live ceremony held at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles and will be livestreamed directly on the TikTok platform. For those who miss the live broadcast, Tubi will begin streaming the event the following day. The awards will celebrate popular categories such as Creator of the Year and Video of the Year. Additional honors include Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Muse of the Year, a category that has raised some questions, especially with nominee Paris Hilton in the mix. The nominee list is dominated by influencers, with no traditional journalists recognized, which aligns with the event’s apparent apolitical nature. The nominated videos reflect the platform’s diverse content, from a fashion influencer showcasing unique clothing finds to a recipe for Homemade Dubai Chocolate that has viewers craving a taste. Voting for the awards will open to users on November 18 through a dedicated portal on the TikTok app. The ceremony is designed as a full-scale gala, complete with a red carpet, live musical performances, and a live audience. This approach stands in stark contrast to the recent Instagram Ring awards, which have no live event and will be sent to creators via mail. While this is the first TikTok Awards in the US, the platform has experience with such events, having previously hosted similar awards shows in countries like Germany, Mexico, and South Korea.
