The Wandering Village Leaves Early Access, Launches on PC, Switch, and PS5
After five years in development, The Wandering Village has officially left Steam Early Access and is now available on PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5. The charming city-building game from Stray Fawn Studio has captivated players with its unique premise and cozy atmosphere since its early access debut in 2022.
To celebrate the full release, Steam is offering a 35 percent discount until July 31, bringing the price down to just under $20 in the US. Nintendo Switch players can also enjoy a 10 percent launch discount until August 7.
The Wandering Village blends two distinct influences: the post-apocalyptic world of Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and the classic city-building mechanics of Impressions Games’ titles like Caesar III and Pharaoh. The result is a fresh take on the genre, where players build their settlement on the back of a massive, wandering creature called the Onbu.
Unlike traditional city-builders, The Wandering Village introduces dynamic challenges as the Onbu roams through different biomes—some of which may be hazardous to villagers. Players must adapt their strategies while also managing the creature’s needs and occasional unpredictable behavior. The game has earned a Very Positive rating on Steam, with recent reviews trending toward Overwhelmingly Positive.
For collectors, physical editions of the game are available for Switch and PS5 through a partnership with Serenity Forge. Pre-orders are open now, with shipments expected early next year.
Despite the full release, Stray Fawn Studio has confirmed that development will continue, ensuring more updates and improvements for The Wandering Village in the future. Whether you’re a fan of city-builders or just looking for a relaxing yet engaging experience, this game offers a unique adventure on the back of a gentle giant.
