FX Reportedly Developing Far Cry TV Show as Ubisoft Post Leaks
A now-deleted post on Ubisoft’s news page reportedly revealed that FX is working on a TV adaptation of the Far Cry franchise. The page was quickly taken down, redirecting visitors to Ubisoft’s general news section, but not before Reddit users captured details from the press release.
According to the leaked information, the Far Cry series will follow an anthology format, with each season featuring a new setting and cast of characters—mirroring the standalone storytelling of the video games. The project is said to be co-created by Rob McElhenney, known for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the creator of Fargo and Legion. Hawley is reportedly set to serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside McElhenney.
Ubisoft Film & Television, which is also behind upcoming adaptations of Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell, is involved in production. While FX has yet to confirm the project officially, the involvement of Hawley—known for his darkly comedic and dramatic storytelling—suggests a strong fit for Far Cry’s chaotic, often satirical tone.
The success of recent video game adaptations like Fallout and The Last of Us has proven there’s significant demand for high-quality TV versions of gaming franchises. If the Far Cry series moves forward, it could become the next big hit in the growing trend of game-to-screen adaptations.
No release window or casting details have been confirmed, but the leaked details have already sparked excitement among fans of the franchise.
