Sony Settles Horizon Clone Lawsuit

Sony and Tencent Settle Horizon Clone Lawsuit Earlier this year, Sony Interactive Entertainment filed a lawsuit against Tencent, accusing the Chinese gaming giant of creating a slavish clone of its popular Horizon series with the game Light of Motiram. The legal action has now concluded with a confidential settlement, leading to the dismissal of the case. According to court documents, the two companies have reached a private agreement. A Tencent spokesperson confirmed the resolution, stating that both parties are pleased with the outcome and will offer no further public comment on the matter. As part of the settlement, Light of Motiram has been removed from major digital storefronts, including Steam and the Epic Games Store. The dispute began when Sony sued Tencent in July 2025. Sony’s complaint argued that Light of Motiram copied numerous distinctive elements from the Horizon franchise, which includes Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West, and Lego Horizon Adventures. Sony pointed to similarities in the core premise of a post-apocalyptic world where humans and advanced machines coexist. The lawsuit also alleged that the visual design of characters, creatures, and even promotional materials closely mirrored Sony’s intellectual property. Prior to the settlement, Tencent had already agreed to halt public testing and promotion of the game. Its subsequent removal from online stores and the final confidential settlement mark the end of this particular copyright infringement case between two of the gaming industry’s largest companies.
