The feature is available for free and can be activated by users through the AI Services panel located in the browser’s Settings menu. This rollout represents Opera’s latest move in the competitive race to build AI-enhanced browsers. The company has been actively experimenting in this space, having previously launched a dedicated, subscription-based AI browser called Opera Neon last year, which carries a monthly fee. The introduction of Browser Connector offers a different approach. Instead of locking users into a single, proprietary AI system, it provides a choice between two leading large language models. This flexibility allows users to select the chatbot that best suits their needs for a particular task and switch between them as desired. Opera’s strategy appears to focus on making its existing browsers smarter with integrated AI tools, while also offering a separate, more agentic AI browser for users seeking a deeper, paid experience.
