Spotify Expands Audiobook Offerings with New Premium Add-On
Spotify has officially rolled out its Audiobooks+ service in the US, Europe, Australia, and several other regions after initially testing the feature in Ireland and Canada last month. The add-on is available to Spotify Premium subscribers, including those on Family and Duo plans, and provides an additional 15 hours of audiobook listening on top of the 15 hours already included in Premium subscriptions.
For individual Premium users, upgrading is simple. Paying an extra $12 per month—on top of the existing $12 Premium fee—grants access to the additional 15 hours of audiobook content. This effectively doubles the listening time available to subscribers who enjoy audiobooks.
For those on Premium Family ($20/month) or Duo ($17/month) plans, the process is slightly different. While these plans already include 15 hours of audiobook listening, only the plan manager can access them. With Audiobooks+, other members of the plan can now request the add-on for an additional $12 per month to unlock their own 15-hour allowance. The plan manager also has the option to purchase a one-time 10-hour top-up for $13, which can be used by any member to finish a book.
Spotify has been steadily growing its audiobook catalog over the past two years, recently partnering with publisher Bloomsbury to expand its library. The company also offers a standalone audiobook subscription for $10 per month, which includes 15 hours of listening. However, depending on the audiobook, purchasing titles outright may be more cost-effective for heavy listeners who go through multiple books each month.
The Audiobooks+ service is now available in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and several European countries, including France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein. This expansion reflects Spotify’s broader push into audiobooks as it continues to diversify its content offerings beyond music and podcasts.
